Mapping Project Pt 2: Journey to Ireland

So by now I have made it to our little cottage in the wilds of County Galway! The journey here was a long one. Having driven up from London to Manchester the night before, we were up nicely and promptly with the car packed full and heading off to Holyhead where, after a brief trip to Lidl we boarded the ferry and set sail across to Dublin. Having not driven much in the UK before, let alone driven on and off a ferry, it was a new experience but the fabulously curated playlist consisting of a a lot of Taylor Swift and Maisie Peters got us through.

Once we hopped off the ferry in Dublin we began the drive to Galway. I quickly realised that the speed limits were now in km/h not mph and other than that the drive was relatively easy, if a bit boring. After dinner in the centre of Galway (and a slight mental breakdown from me that was resolved via a phone call to my boyfriend) we then set off on the final leg to our airbnb. The small country lanes in the dark and pouring rain when we had been driving all day were less than ideal. A quick emergency brake in front of a rabbit, a confusion with google maps and a lack of knowledge on how my beam headlights turned on and off (which was figured out don't worry mum), we made it to the cottage at almost midnight. What a long day!

Lucky for us the owner of the cottage we are staying in was lovely and gave us a warm warm welcome to what will now be our home for the next 6 weeks. The cottage itself, despite its quirks of a lack of phone signal and a few spiders, is more perfect than we could have imagined. We were even met with the luxury of an extra bedroom (we had only anticipated having 4 between the 6 of us) so a night spent in a double bed to myself was a great end to a stressful day. Being able to have a bit of our own space instead of living on top of each other I think will be very much appreciated in the weeks to comes,

The next morning we decided to have a day to organise ourselves before hitting the field. We started the day off with the really fun activity of drawing margins and putting page numbers on every page in our notebook. This took a while and I only got through 2 out of 8 books before getting bored but at least its a start. Post lunch we headed off back to civilisation to do a big food shop at the nearest Aldi. Despite forgetting the shopping bags (see the pic) and having to figure out a complicated system for paying for communal food/people's own food we returned successful and spent the rest of the day chilling out, checking out the horses in the field next door and planning out what we are going to do for our first day in the field.

Let the mapping begin....
