Hi everyone and welcome to my first post!
Thank you for taking the time to read and stick with me while I figure out this whole blog thing for myself.
So, let's address the elephant in the room: the somewhat cringe worthy title of the blog. Now, I'm going to be honest with you all I did have a cheeky google of geology puns to see what was out there and Let's Chalk About It seemed like a good fit. Chalk is a type of rock, I'm a geologist. Chalk is also what gymnasts put on their hands before using apparatus to improve their grip, I am also a gymnast having competed in acrobatic gymnastics since I was little.
I am currently studying Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford and as anyone who knows me can confirm I have a somewhat strange love for rocks, most geologists do. I also have a love for writing and since I have somehow decided I don't get set enough essays to do that within my course (others may disagree) I thought this would be a nice way to combine the two. In this blog I'll be exploring a range of topics to do with geology and the Earth Sciences as well as university life in general.
I would like this blog to be what I wish I had when I was deciding what to do with my future and going through the university application process. I had no idea what Earth Science was, what the difference between geophysics, geoscience, geology and all the other geos where and which one I wanted to do. 2019 Liv was armed only with a love of mountains, the internet and a very lovely geography teacher to figure out what I wanted to do, what I could do to get me there and to go off an do it. Luckily for me it worked out quite well but I thought this could be a good platform to help other budding Earth Scientists out there figure out the world of uni applications and undergraduate study as I figure out what I'm doing as well.
If I'm going to be completely honest I'm not entirely sure the direction this blog is going to go. But wherever this ends up going, whatever it ends up being and whoever ends up reading this, thank you and enjoy!
